Winter Care for Hybrid Tea Roses

What is a hybrid tea rose? The difference between a shrub rose and a hybrid tea rose is that a hybrid tea rose has been grafted taking a hardy root stock and grafting a desirable named rose variety on to the root stock. On the reverse side of tags attached to the rose are instructions how to plant the rose. In order too ensure winter survival there are chores that need to be done.

Step 1: in the fall remove all the past seasons foliage- do not compost,

instead dispose the foliage by burning or put it in the garbage.

Step 2: the graft union should be planted just below the soil level. Best

method for mulching is to mound garden soil around the base 6-8” up

covering the union graft in a cone shape. Never use soil from the area the

rose is growing in potentially damaging the root system. Obtain soil from

another area in your yard or purchase a bag of topsoil.

Step 3: After a winters rest, remove the soil mulch prior to green growth

appearing later in the spring after danger of hard frost is gone. Work the

extra soil into the soil around the rose careful not to bury the plant to deep

in soil. Hopefully, this step will ensure a strong and healthy rose.

Our Warranty- Country Blooms will guarantee to replace once free of charge any rose for the value of the original price that fails to live for the current growing season, no over winter guarantee, providing the death is not caused from animal, mechanical, frost, hail, or wind damage. A grafted rose is that they have been made up of two different rose bushes. The grafted roses have a knot-like structure where the graft was made. Grafted roses can live up to 15 years.

(This refers to grafted roses only. Hardy roses receive a one year warranty!)
